Shoreline Walk public squares in Beirut, Lebanon
For Solidere, Beirut, 2002-06
Mark Gillingham (Glas) as an Associate at Gustafson Porter, London was responsible for the Masterplan and detail design and documentation of a series of connected urban squares as part of the restoration of central Beirut. Conceived as a diverse sculptural urban spaces each revealing memories of the past fabric and providing connected hubs for the re-establishment of the social life of the city centre. The first of the spaces Zeytoune Square was completed in 2011 and has become a celebrated part of the redevelopment of downtown Beirut. Award winner World Architecture Festival 2011.
